Good morning, all! We have a busy week ahead due to our third and fifth grade students beginning their Milestones assessments this week. As first graders, this impacts us because our classroom is right around the corner from testing! We will be focusing on being extra respectful and responsible in the coming weeks. :)
Here's what we are learning this week:
Math- defining and non-defining attributes of 3D shapes
Shape Match
Shapes & Geometry
Science- We are continuing our study of different classifications of animals. Students will be generating questions about an unusual animal, then creating their own animal and explaining its classification and environment.
Animal Characteristics Game
Animal Brain Pops
Reading- Comparing and contrasting twisted fairy tales. This week, we will be reading Jack in the Beanstalk and Little Red Riding Hood. Our shared reading will be comparing and contrasting two Pigeon books from Mo Willems.
Language- We are continuing to learn about affixes, including common prefixes and suffixes.
Prefixes Brain Pop
Writing- Our realistic fiction books are coming along so well! We will continue working on these this week, with lessons on revising and editing.
