Good morning! It feels like time is flying by and we are beginning our third week of first grade! There is already SO much learning and growth happening, all while having so much fun.
Here is what we are learning about this week:
Math: We are continuing our first math unit (more information can be found here). This week will focus on using tallies to collect data and comparing different data sets using the words "more", "less", and "equal", which will build up to using the greater than, less than, and equal sign symbols to compare information.
Social Studies: We are finishing up our two week unit about maps and America. This week, we will focus on common land forms, map keys, and the song, "America the Beautiful".
Reading/Language Arts: identifying characters and settings in fiction books, short i words, "sentence skills" (beginning with a capital letter and ending with punctuation), identifying different types of sentences, building reading stamina and developing skills that good readers use
Writing: Narrative Writing- finding stories in our own lives, planning for writing, and including illustrations to add details
