This week we had another STEM day! We talked about the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff and discussed the problem in the story. We also talked about the term "recycling". Then, we broke into our table teams, where each team designed and built a new bridge for the goats using recycled materials. The bridge had to be able to hold the goats and protect them from the troll. The teams did a fantastic job working together and made some amazing structures!
Today we celebrated Groundhog Day in our class! We read groundhog themed books, both fiction and non-fiction, and talked about weather. We predicted whether or not the groundhog would see his shadow, then graphed our predictions. We even got to learn about Georgia's own groundhog from the North Georgia Zoo, who predicted we will have an early spring in Georgia this year.
This past week, we had our monthly STEM day. We talked about the story of Rapunzel and how she was trapped in a tall tower. I challenged each table group to use just paper and tape to build a tower strong enough to hold cubes on top, then measure it with cubes to see how tall the tower is. Everyone did a fantastic job! I love getting to see their creative juices flowing. :)
